With sad (but hopeful) hearts we announce that the congregation of Capitol Hill Presbyterian (CHP) will be ending soon. CHP has experienced many changes over the last couple of years, most notably a steady decline in attendance and giving, and the departure of key people in leadership. As a result, the Session of CHP entered a time of discernment about the future. After many hours of intentional prayer, scripture reading and discussion, we concluded that God was saying that it was time to close CHP as we know it. In addition, we also discerned God’s promise that he was “doing a new thing” (Isaiah 43); however, what that is or the timing of it is still known only to God.
We mourn along with everyone else the closing of this chapter. But, we also rejoice in what God is yet to do, and trust in him. We trust that God is at work preparing for the future of this sacred space so that it will continue to be filled, that Christ Jesus will be glorified, and that people would come to know how wide and long and high and deep God’s love is for them!
We continue to gather each Sunday for worship and invite you to join us! We hope you can be with us on June 24th at 9:45a.m. for our final worship service together! The 24th will be a morning of celebration as we give thanks for the many years of ministry, mission, and fellowship.
